United Airlines offers SYD-MEL for $50

US carrier United Airlines is offering a week of $50 fares between Sydney-Melbourne in early December.

United is making seats available to domestic travellers on its 747 services that fly between the two cities en route to or from the US. Tickets are on sale now for travel from December 3 to 10 at one-way fares of $49.50 before taxes.

The total fare climbs to $71.20 SYD-MEL and $75.14 MEL-SYD when all taxes and charges are included. A return trip including taxes will cost $136.34 all up.

While the fares only apply for a week, the offer is described as introductory and may be followed up with an ongoing domestic service.

United is a Star Alliance airline but InfoChoice understands it will not be allowing those with Ansett reward points to redeem them for tickets on these flights.
