Use your plastic to pay tax bill

The Australian Taxation Office is considering accepting credit card payments to deal with the growing problem of bad debts. The suggestion has worried consumer groups already alarmed by Australians' heavy use of high-interest credit and the level of household debt. The ATO itself acknowledges the danger of this option but a consultant's report claims many taxpayers would welcome the option, the ATO would be paid promptly and the taxpayer left to pay off the card debt over time. Another measure being considered is the employment of private debt collectors.
