Westpac, Diners reward points under a cloud

Westpac and Diners Club are trying to protect the Ansett frequent flyer reward points earned by their credit card customers amid the uncertainty over the fate of the airline.

Spending on Westpac credit cards and the Diners Club card earns points that can be transferred into Ansett's Global Rewards scheme.

Westpac says it has made representations to Ansett over the rewards scheme but it is unclear whether anything can be done to safeguard the points.

If Ansett is taken over by Qantas or another airline it is likely that the Global rewards points would be honoured by the new owner. However, if Ansett was to go into receivership, customers would probably lose their accrued points.
