Westpac gives $10mil by mistake
A couple who disappeared after Westpac deposited $10 million into their account by mistake are unlikely to get away with taking the money say experts.
The New Zealand couple who own a petrol station in Rotorua applied for a $10,000 overdraft instead received NZ$10,000,000.00 in their account and promptly disappeared. The petrol station has been put into receivership.
The business owners could not argue that they thought the funds were theirs and have effectively become thieves said banking expert Claire Matthews from Massey University.
