Westpac’s EFTPOS & ATM problems impact trains
Westpac and St. George customers are reporting widespread difficulty accessing online banking, ATM and EFTPOS services this morning. The problems are also impacting on train ticket EFTPOS machines in Sydney.
A Westpac spokesman said the problems occurred after a data centre shut down when its air conditioning system failed. The bank was working to restore services and expected all EFTPOS to be fully functional later this morning, the spokesman said.
Transport NSW said train travellers should use cash, pay at their destination or pay on return. Bruce Mansfield, the managing director of EFTPOS, said they were also working to fix the problem.
“We are aware of some service disruptions with the EFTPOS network and are speaking with the affected acquiring bank to minimise impact on Australian consumers and merchants.”
