Will banks get a lecture, or a royal commission?
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was asked at Friday night’s leaders’ debate about Labor’s plan to set up a banking royal commission.
Mr Turnbull said he had given the banks a lecture about ‘some important cultural changes they needed to make.’ Mr Turnbull ruled out a royal commission. Mr Shorten made fun of the ‘lecture’ remark and has continued to push for a full royal commission into the culture of risk taking, customer rip-offs and criminal fraud within Australia’s banks.
