Term deposits are still popular with investors

Interest rates are set to stay at or near their current record lows. But the lustre has not worn off term deposits as an investment.

In 2008, term deposits became much more than just a way to balance an investor’s portfolio. By 2012, term deposits were one of the most popular investment products, as investors sought refuge from volatile equity markets.

In late 2012, financial planners were putting a fifth of new client money into term deposits. Now that has fallen, but planners are still putting 11 per cent of new client money into term deposits according to a report by Investment Trends.
