Slow start for WAP but still early days yet
So far the public’s reaction to and take-up of WAP services has not met the expectations of telecommunication companies, however, industry analysts believe that this is merely a hiccup in WAP’s initial and still developing period. Analysts have explained that many of the problems WAP faces such as slow connection speeds, browser incompatibility, security issues and so on, are similar to those generated by the internet in it’s early days. Once these problems are addressed, WAP has the potential of fulfilling all the hype that has accompanied it as predictions made by Motorola and Ericsson claim that close to all phones sold in Australia by 2001 will be WAP enabled.
