Switching funds doesn’t necessarily mean new waiting periods

You can usually switch to a different health insurer without having to serve more waiting periods – if the switch is to the same level of cover and you have served the appropriate waiting periods with your original health fund.
You will have to serve waiting periods before you qualify for any new or higher benefits the new policy may offer.
Also, accrued benefits such as increased limits for ancillary benefits for long-serving members will usually not be transferred across to the new fund. You will receive the same annual limits as new members. Increased limits for ancillary benefits are based on continuous fund membership NOT continuous health cover membership.
Ask the fund to explain any new waiting periods, benefit limitation periods and your rights about increased benefit limits.
