New customers opt for Virgin Mobile
Virgin Mobile gained a record 20,000 new customers during the month of January.
With 50,000 new customers signing up to Virgin Mobile in the December 2001 quarter and this quarter already off to a great start, Virgin Mobile looks to be benefiting from both mobile number portability and the effects of increased fees by Telstra and Optus. Managing Director Andrew Grant estimates about 70 per cent of Virgin’s new customers have switched from other carriers.
Australia’s third largest mobile phone company Vodafone also gained a significant number of new customers in the December 2001 quarter adding 36,000 subscribers to their books.
