Half have overdrawn their bank account

Household budgets are under increasing pressure and a growing number of people are fighting back by adopting some extreme belt-tightening strategies.

A flourishing movement is developing of anti-consumers who are rejecting the spend, spend, spend lifestyle that puts many of us on a financial treadmill that is hard to get off.

“Sixty five per cent of us have behaviours, attitudes and beliefs that are holding us back financially,” said an analyst. “Sizeable proportions of consumers are not diligent or frugal. It’s clear that the net effect is comparable to driving a car with the handbrake on.”

“For example 38 per cent of people believe the only budget they need is in their head and 46 per cent have been overdrawn on their everyday banking account.”
