New help line for unclaimed money

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has embarked on a campaign to find owners for the $458 million in unclaimed money that it holds. ASIC has set up a new infoline where people can speak with a service consultant about lost bank accounts, life-insurance policies and shares. “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to be reunited with their lost funds and encourage anyone who suspects that they may be entitled to unclaimed money to contact ASIC's infoline directly,” said Delia Rickard, ASIC's deputy executive director of consumer protection. Searching is free and there are no costs involved in claiming money, all you need to do is provide proof that you are the owner. The infoline can be reached on 1300 300 630 or by emailing
