Domestic travel thriving and set to continue
Figures indicating a rise in domestic travel have supported claims that competition in the domestic market is working and will continue. Recent statistics show a 25 per cent jump in air passenger traffic for the month of September compared to the same time last year. Traffic on the Brisbane-Sydney route increased by 35 per cent whilst the Melbourne-Sydney leg jumped by 24 per cent. Federal Transport Minister Mr John Anderson said that while the Olympics influenced the increased numbers, the entrance of Virgin Blue and Impulse Airlines had positively changed the domestic market. Mr Anderson also claimed that the increased competition was sustainable.
