Bank fees – $10/month is too much

Generally speaking if you are paying more than about $10 per month in bank fees it may be time to shop around for a better deal from your bank accounts.

The key piece of advice is to read your statements carefully and work out why the fees are being charged. Are you making too many transactions or is it time to get a new account?

Financial analysts say the highest overdrawn account fee currently in the market is $45.

NAB, Westpac and Commonwealth Bank have all announced big changes to the fees they charge their customers, effective from October 1. ANZ is also expected to announce big cuts to fees.

Local credit unions often offer low fee banking services.
