First Home-Buyers Grant
A $7000 grant is available to first homebuyers to go towards the purchase of their property. The First Home Owners Grant comes from the Commonwealth government to help compensate for the effect of the GST but the grant scheme is administered by the state and territory governments. An additional grant to first homebuyers building new homes is no longer available.
To qualify for the First Home Owner Grant you must:
- be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia.
- not already own, or have owned a property. If you are married, this includes property held in either your name or your partner's.
- live in the property and move into within one year of purchase
First home buyers may get a further bonus from their state governments. Some states offer stamp duty concessions to first home buyers. For more information, contact your local State or Territory revenue office:
