Company websites can fail investors
A survey by Global Reviews of 38 ASX-listed companies shows many of their web sites offer outdated, confusing or inadequate information. Some of the companies did not respond to e-mailed queries submitted on their investor relations web pages. The Investor Relations Online Benchmark survey rated the web sites against almost 500 criteria. Part of the review involved e-mailing a standard shareholder's question to the companies. Eight failed to respond at all. The companies which were weak in e-mails were also the poorest for investor information on their web sites. The poor performers included the Commonwealth Bank and Coca-Cola Amatil. The best overall performer was National Australia Bank followed by Coles Myer, BlueScope Steel, Alumina and the ANZ Bank. Origin Energy was the best in the e-mail response category.
